Music Therapy can be an effective vehicle for driving communication, literacy, and social interaction for students with CVI. Previous PCVIS collaborator, and Neurologic Music Therapist, Marie Miller, MT-BC, NMT, of Rhythm and Strings has been working with children and adults with neurologic challenges for over 20 years. Earlier this year, she elevated her impact in the field through the release of a self-paced courseIncreasing Accessibility: Ensuring Everyone Can Participate and Engage in a Meaningful Way.

What makes this course especially exciting for the CVI community is its dedicated section on considerations for CVI-specific adaptations to materials and instructional methods. This portion of the course is provided by PCVIS' co-President, Francesca Crozier-Fitzgerald. She explains how CVI can impact access, and offers methods for adapting activities and learning.

Participants of the course will receive:

  •  26 original songs with chords, lyrics, visuals, and lead sheets
  • 6 hours of pre-recorded video content
  • A 174-page PDF resource guide
  • 61 high-quality printable visuals
  • A 30-minute presentation introducing CVI and visual accessibility considerations
We are encouraged to see CVI included in the broader interdisciplinary conversation about accessibility and participation in music therapy, helping professionals create more inclusive experiences for all learners.
